PREJUDICE AND PRIDE
"Gripping"
The Outmost
This groundbreaking piece for radio explores the experiences of six people from the Irish traveller community who identify as gay. There is no voice-over, no outside experts; only queer traveller voices telling their own story. This radio piece can only be loosely described as a 'documentary', as it has more in common—both in tone and sctructure—with Alan Bennett's Talking Heads than, say, Louis Theroux. It is a collection of 6 monologues in different locations; in some cases the participants wanted to appear as themselves, but some participants needed to give a false name and have an actor speak their words verbatim.
